On The Ground

Nestled in the northeast corner of Utah with Wyoming as the northern boundary and Colorado as the eastern boundary. Flaming Gorge reservoir is located in the center of the unit.

Terrain

Antelope can be found on public land with low-elevation desert scrub and sagebrush. Antelope can be seen along the north end of the unit, with a few found in heavy cover and cliffy areas. There are some steep cliff areas within this unit, hunters should try to avoid these areas and look for the sagebrush-covered flats and mesas. There are some isolated drinkers and stock ponds that the antelope will use for water source. Hunters will be able to glass and cover large tracts of country here.

  • Roughly 622 square miles

  • 89% public land

  • Elevations from about 5,800-9,300 feet

High elevations have pines, aspen and pinyon/juniper, sagebrush and some bitterbrush. Pinyon/juniper, manzanita, grass meadows and sagebrush can be found in middle elevations, while the lower elevations have pinyon/juniper, sagebrush, oak brush, grasses and other browse.

Great access to the lower elevations where most antelope can be found. Some good dirt roads and a high number of two-track ATV trails can be used to navigate the unit. There are good antelope numbers throughout this unit, hunters will want to use the roads to cover the unit. The Browns Park road will give hunters access to some of the prime antelope habitat. Hunters can also use State Route 318 to access the west end of the unit. Some antelope will be found in the desert areas along the shores of Flaming Gorge near Antelope Flat and Highway 191. Bare Top is the only area that prohibits vehicle access. Some hunters use roads that come into the unit from Colorado or Wyoming. If you are going to hunt near state lines, a good GPS is recommended.

  • Great vehicle and ATV access

  • A lot of country to hunt

There are a number of campgrounds and hotels along the shores of Flaming Gorge that hunters can use while hunting this unit. Manilla also offers supplies and services for hunters. Camping is permitted on most public land.
