On The Ground

This unit is located south and east of Duchesne, interstate 40 is the northern boundary. Past hunters have enjoyed a very high success rate on this unit with very few days in the field.

This unit has a lot of public land with the antelope isolated to a few areas on the unit. Antelope typically will be found in the flats from the middle to the southern end of the unit. Groups of antelope can be found throughout this area. This unit had good access so it is not a strenuous hunt.

Terrain

The majority of antelope terrain will be lower elevations flats with sagebrush. This part of Utah has many mesas and plateaus with some small canyons and washes that break up the landscape. There are some isolated drinkers and stock ponds that the antelope will use for a water source. There is good road access to this area, hunters can travel the unit in either ATVs or vehicles. Antelope habitat will be found north and south of Interstate 40.

  • Roughly 1,028 square miles

  • 66% public land

  • Elevations from about 4,100-8,100 feet

The high elevations consist of pinyon/juniper, sagebrush and some bitterbrush. Middle elevations also have pinyon/juniper patches, manzanita, grass meadows and sagebrush, with lower elevations staying consistent to the mid and upper levels.

Great access to the lower elevations of this unit where some antelope can be found. Many good dirt roads and a high number of two-track ATV trails can be used to navigate the unit. There are the Tribal Trust Lands within this unit which doesn't allow ATV use so they must be trailered across these roads. There are good antelope numbers throughout this unit and hunters will want to use the roads to cover the unit. Most hunters will use the Nine Mile Canyon road or the Sand Wash road. Antelope can be viewed anywhere near these roads.

  • Great vehicle and ATV access

  • Lots of country to hunt

  • Glass from high elevations areas

Duchesne has lodging, gas, groceries and other supplies. Camping is permitted on most public land within this unit.
