North of Lake Powell and south of Escalante, this huge unit has low numbers of pronghorn antelope.
The few antelope in this unit are typically located near Big Water, UT or on the northside of US 89 . A lot of country is available to hunters here, including some desolate, remote terrain. Not a lot of tags are available for this area.
This unit is desolate with stark canyons featuring enormous red sandstone cliffs. Lake Powell is at the southern end. Grand Staircase National Monument is in the center of the unit and has breathtaking scenery.
High elevations are timbered with ponderosa, pinyon pines, and junipers, while the middle elevations are primarily sandstone canyons with grass meadows, sagebrush and scrub oak. The low terrain is covered in pinyon pines, junipers, sagebrush, and oak brush. Animals can be found watering at small stock ponds and seeps throughout the unit.
Several maintained dirt roads give access to different places within the unit. US Highway 89 runs east to west, leading to many interior roads. The Paria River is the eastern boundary and there are some good access roads to this part of the unit.
Hunters can get lodging, gas, groceries and other supplies in Kanab and Tropic. Camping is allowed on most public land in this unit.
