On The Ground
This unit is northwest of the Great Salt Lake and southwest of Snowville, which is not a long drive from northern Utah cities. Antelope are scattered throughout the unit, with a lot of them spending time on private land.
This unit has isolated pockets of public land with the antelope spread out on the unit. Much of the antelope habitat is private land and hunters will need to obtain permission prior to applying for this hunt. This is an easy hunt physically, with a lot of good glassing areas. Hunters should book with an outfitter or arrange access to private prior to applying for this permit.
Terrain
Some of the antelope terrain will be low elevation marshland while much of the antelope terrain will be low elevations flats with some grassy rolling hills. The Matlin Mountains and the Hogup Mountain ranges are both located on this unit with good access to both ranges. Both mountains range from 5,000–6,200 feet above sea level. Some antelope will be found at the base of both these mountain ranges. There are some isolated drinkers and stock ponds that the antelope will use for a water source. Hunters will be able to glass and cover large tracts of country in this unit. There is some farmland located on the north end of the unit, making antelope gravitate toward this area.
Roughly 1,680 square miles
58% public land
Elevations from about 4,200-6,800 feet
Vegetation
The high elevations contain pinyon/junipers with middle and low elevations consisting of, sagebrush, grasses, cactus and other low-elevation desert browse. There are multiple marshlands and stock ponds found within the unit. The Great Salt Lake is located to the south with some salt flats.
Access
There is poor access with limited amount of public land in this unit. Hunters looking to hunt public land can find small portions to the south of the farmland on the north end of the unit near Wildcat Hills. There is also good public access to Matlin Basin. Hunters who want to enjoy this hunt and not worry about private land issues need to contact a land owner or book with an outfitter. Some landowners allow hunters to hunt private land for a trespass fee.
