If you are looking for a chance to plan a DIY hunt this is a good option as there are over 100,000 acres of public land scattered across this unit. There is a major section of the Badlands National Park to contend with in this unit but there are many miles of public grassland surrounding the National Park. As you move further east into the unit the amount of public land gets more scarce. If you are looking to plan a hunt in this eastern portion of the state you will need landowner permission as much of the landscape is private. This unit has a good population of both mule deer and whitetail with a higher population of mule deer the closer you get to the National Park.

There is a good amount of Buffalo National Grassland in this unit in the western side of the unit. On the eastern side of the unit you’ll find lots of agricultural land and CRP.
