This unit is found in the north central portion of the state and east of the Missouri River. This unit is primarily made up of private ground with very little public access with the exception of some very small pieces of state land and some walk-in access. Securing private access will be the best bet for finding success here.

With so few options for public access hunters will likely need to secure private access to find success.

The bulk of the ground is being used for dryland farming and anything that is not is generally wetland and marsh. There are no major terrain features in this unit to speak of. Overall the unit is relatively flat with the exception of the northwest corner which is rather broken. There is not a lot of elevation change throughout the unit.

The various creek beds have scattered timber including Cottonwood, American Elm, Green Ash, and Bur Oak lining the edges of much of the water system. As you move through the riparian zone you will find a healthy mix of marsh vegetation including cattails, different prairie grass and wildflowers. The agriculture is a mix of soybean, corn, wheat, sunflowers, alfalfa primarily with some farmers growing different types of vegetables.

State highway 12 spans this unit moving east and west and is the most notable route to gain access to various locations. State highway 45 moves south off of highway 212 on the east side of the unit. County highway 47, 253, 247, and 45 all head north and south off of highway 12 and allow access to any corner of the unit you are needing to get to.

There are a number of small towns across this unit, the most notable are Bowdle, Roscoe, and Ipswich which are all located just off of state highway 12. Each of these towns is relatively small, but does have fuel, groceries, hotels, and just about anything you may need if in the area or passing through.
