Located in the northeast portion of the state, this unit is primarily made up of private land. That being said there is a little bit of walk-in ground and state owned properties that allow hunter access which can be a viable option for DIY hunters.
With very limited public access there are few hunters headed to this Unit without a plan around hunting some private property. Some DIY opportunities do exist but these are still fairly slim.
Overall this unit is relatively flat with some roll to it. There is a heavy mix of swamp, creek beds, and dry land farming scattered in all directions of this unit creating a unique mixture of habitat for this area's game populations.
The various creek beds have scattered timber including Cottonwood, American Elm, Green Ash, and Bur Oak lining the edges of much of the water system. As you move through the riparian zone you will find a healthy mix of marsh vegetation including cattails, different prairie grass and wildflowers. The agriculture is a mix of soybean, corn, wheat, sunflowers, alfalfa primarily with some farmers growing different types of vegetables.
The main access route in this unit is highway 212 that goes east and west across the center of the unit. On the far east side there is county road 25 that moves north and south. These are the two main routes that will allow access to the bulk of the unit.
Roughly 968 square miles
3% public land
Elevations range from 1,400 - 1,800 feet
Bring your Shotgun as there may be options to hunt some upland game as well as waterfowl in the area.
GOHUNT Maps are recommended to help navigate public and private boundaries
There is very little state land and walk-in access in this unit, without prior arrangements to access a piece of private land there is very little opportunity to hunt in this entire unit.
