This unit is found in the Norwest portion of the state along the North Dakota state line. This unit is rather remote with very few services across the bulk of the unit except for a few small townships along the interstate to the north, the biggest being Lemmon. This unit consists of primarily private land but it does have a decent amount of public access options in the form of walk-in access and public grasslands scattered across the unit. If you are planning a hunt in this unit it would be in your best interest to arrive with prior arrangements made on some portion of private land. There are two major rivers running through this unit the North Fork Grand River and the South Fork Grand River which offer some fantastic habitat, as well as miles of rolling hills covered in CRP and grasslands.

A decent number of antelope can be found within the unit along with a fair amount of public access options. The best bucks will still typically be found on private lands but public hunters do have some options here.

The vast majority of the unit is broken/rolling hills and river bottoms with the exception of some agriculture in the mix. There is not quite a thousand feet of elevation change across the entire unit and hunters will have little to no trouble traversing most of the area.

A mix of short and tall prairie grass for miles in all directions as well as countless species of wildflowers can be found in most areas of the unit that haven’t been turned for agricultural purposes. Very sparse timber along river bottoms, which is primarily Cottonwood, can be found along the riparian zone of small creek beds scattered across the unit.

Hwy 20 makes up the southern border, while Hwy 75 is to the west, and Hwy 73 is to the east heading north to Hwy 12 and the state line which creates the northern border. Overall there are numerous country roads covering the majority of the unit which makes navigating to one spot or the other very simple. There is a decent amount of public ground in this unit, consisting mostly of grasslands and walk-in areas where access is good. The majority of the unit is private though, so written permission is required when hunting those areas.

Located in the Northeast corner of the Unit along Interstate 12 and Hwy 73 is Lemmon. Along the interstate, as well as being one of the largest towns in all directions, it has a number of amenities from drug stores, locally owned restaurants and groceries. There are a number of lodges and motels in the town. Because of the close proximity to Shadehill Reservoir, a popular recreation area, it is a good idea to call ahead and make reservations. If you are looking for a place to camp there are very limited locations in the unit but around Shadehill Reservoir there are a number of established campgrounds.
