On The Ground
This unit has good road access to most public areas, with some only accessible by foot. Pine Nut Range is the major landmark here and is home to mule deer and antelope.
There are few antelope in this unit.
Terrain
Steep terrain can be found in a number of regions throughout the Pine Nut Range. Other areas have slopes, rolling hills, deep and shallow swales and benches. Mount Siegel is the highest point in the unit. Water sources are scattered, but more are concentrated in elevations above 7,000 feet.

Vegetation
Much of the Pine Nut Range holds dense stands of pinyon and juniper trees. Bitterbrush, mountain mahoganies, quaking aspens and some serviceberry are scattered at elevations above 6,000 feet. Elevations below 6,000 feet are made up mostly of desert brush.
Access
Land status varies, but the unit is mostly made up of public land. Private lands are within and in close proximity to Carson City, Dayton, Minden/Gardnerville and Silver Springs, Nevada areas.
US Route 395 serves as both the western boundary of the unit, and the best means of accessing the western regions of the unit. US Highway 50 serves as the best access to the northern parts of the unit, while State Route 208 serves as the best means to access the Southern parts of the unit.
Camping and Lodging
Lodging and supplies are available in Carson City, Dayton and Minden/Gardnerville, Nevada. Supplies and fuel are also available in Wellington. Hunters can camp anywhere on public land.
