On The Ground
This unit includes the Desert Range, situated in Northwest Clark County and Southwestern Lincoln County. Terrain is very typical of the southern Nevada desert and lies within the Nellis Air Force Range, as well as the Desert National Wildlife Range.
This unit is primarily desert sheep country and has scattered densities of sheep with a vast amount of country to cover. Hunters should be prepared to spend some time behind the optics to find rams.
Terrain
The valley floors are flat, dry Mojave Desert landscape covered by dry lake beds and sandy washes. The mountain ranges are steep, rocky canyons full of broken ledges and impassable rim rock. Navigating the deep crevices and hidden canyons is tough. Hunters should be in good physical shape to hunt on foot.
Roughly 415 square miles
100% public land
Elevations from 4,000-6,500 feet
Vegetation
The valley floors are barren with sparse vegetation. Creosote Bush, Joshua trees, blackbrush scrub, and various cacti are most common. Water can be found at higher elevations and supports pinyon-juniper stands, Fir Pines, Bristlecone Pines and some small pockets of sagebrush.
Access
Hunter access may be considered fair due to a variety of restrictions. Hunters must become familiar with access restrictions enforced by the Air Force and Fish and Wildlife Service. To gain access to the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR), hunters (and everyone in their hunting party) must comply with all Nevada hunting requirements and then meet the following NTTR requirements.
Camping and Lodging
There are modern services located in Indian Springs or full services in Las Vegas. One can also camp on the flats with wall tents or campers.
