On The Ground

This unit in southwestern Nevada surrounds the Candelaria Hills. Terrain is typical of the southwestern part of the state and is largely public with a few private land ranches and parcels.

This smaller area is joined with other bordering sister units and holds a very limited amount of game. There are some natural water sources as well as some man-made sources. Hunters usually can expect low densities of game and look to sister units for a higher chance of harvesting game.

Terrain

The low-lying salt flats lead into broken and fragmented hills with loose rock and shallow topsoil. The terrain then turns into broken pinyon/juniper stands as you gain elevation with rock formations mainly around Miller Mountain.

  • Roughly 256 square miles

  • 99.5% public land

  • Elevations range from 4,000-8,700 feet

The lower areas of the unit have alkali and sand flats that lead to broken hills and playas with short brush and native vegetation. As you gain elevation, the unit becomes steeper with stands of pinyon/juniper and larger brush with rock formations.

The unit is mostly public with good access and a few smaller private mining landholdings.

  • Four-wheel-drive vehicles and ATVs are helpful

  • Mostly public ground

Main roads:

  • Highway 95 is the eastern boundary

  • Highway 360 is the western boundary

  • Highway 6 is the southern boundary

Services are located in the towns of Tonopah and Hawthorne. There are limited services located in Mina and Luning. There are primitive camp spots that are available for campers or tents.
