On The Ground
This unit includes the Desatoya Mountains and Broken Hills of Churchill County. Diverse terrain is mostly public but includes some private property on the valley floors.
Antelope live in the lower valleys and foothills of the unit as well as around private agricultural fields.
Terrain
The terrain ranges from irrigated crop fields and large desert valleys to steep mountains and peaks.
Roughly 821 square miles
98.1% public land
Elevations from 5,000-9,500 feet
Vegetation
Large sagebrush valleys with a few agricultural fields lead into 6,500-7,500 foot hills covered with brush, pinyon pines and juniper trees. Above 7,500 feet are open sagebrush basins with aspens around water sources. These are connected to steep ridges with some mahogany, cliffs and rock formations.
Access
A lot of public roads, ranging from paved highways and maintained gravel roads to four-wheel-drive and ATV trails, lead to good places to start hunting. Some parts are rocky, so carry extra spare tires.
Private property does not impact access to public land
Four-wheel-drive vehicles and ATVs are important
Main roads:
Highway 361 and part of Lander County Line on western and southern boundaries
Highway 50 on the northern boundary
Multiple roads access the east
Camping and Lodging
Middlegate Station on Highway 50 has services such as food, fuel and cabins that require reservations. Farther west is Fallon, which has good service. Hunters may pitch tents or park RVs at many spots across the unit.
