On The Ground
Deer and antelope unit includes the Fish Creek Range, Mahogany Hills and the northern part of Antelope Valley. Eureka is in the northeastern corner. Except for a few parcels of private property, most land is public.
After snowstorms in bordering units, some deer migrate into this unit, offering patient hunters a chance of killing a bigger buck.
Terrain
Desert valleys typically range from about 7,000-7,250 feet above sea level, while the Mahogany Hills, the Mountain Boy Range and the Fish Creek Range rise gradually to many peaks and ridges more than 8,000 feet in elevation.
Roughly 452 square miles
97.5% public land
Elevations range from 9,000-9,573 feet
Vegetation
Large sagebrush valleys lead into hills covered with pinyon and juniper trees. From about 7,500 to 8,500 feet are open sagebrush basins with some aspen pockets along water sources. Ridges are lined with mahoganies and rock outcroppings. At high elevations are some vertical ridges and mountains, steep cliffs and rock formations.
Access
A lot of public roads, ranging from maintained gravel roads to four-wheel-drive and ATV trails, lead to good places to start hunting.
Excellent public access
Only a few square miles of private land
Four-wheel-drive vehicles and ATVs are important
Highway 50 in the north is the main access road
Camping and Lodging
