Located on the Utah-Nevada border and home to the Great Basin National Park, this unit offers good public access but limited hunting area in the higher elevations. The Snake Range holds some great animals, giving hunters the opportunity to hunt the unique area.

With healthy herds of elk, mule deer, antelope and a growing population of Rocky Mountain Bighorn sheep, this unit has a lot to offer. Elk tags are difficult to draw. This unit has great public access.

The Snake Mountain range, with peaks reaching over 13,000 feet high, runs north and south through the unit. Off of the desert valley there are rolling foothills, leading up to the base of the mountains.

With the Great Basin National Park covering much of the unit and not allowing hunting, there is limited hunting access. There is still good public access to other parts of the unit with maintained gravel roads leading to four-wheel-drive or ATV roads spread throughout the unit. The Highlands Ridge Wilderness is limited to foot traffic.

With over 7,000 feet of elevation change within the unit, you can expect variation in vegetation. The valley floor is covered in different grasses and sagebrush. Pinyon pines and juniper trees spread throughout the middle elevations of the unit. At higher elevations there are aspens that grow in the bottoms of the canyons and drainages, along with conifer forest that grow on the steep slopes. The very tops of the mountains are above treeline and are covered in grass and shale.

This unit is isolated, and does not have a lot of towns that offer supplies anywhere near it. Most hunters will camp near the unit on public land, as there are a lot of good camping areas. There is gas and lodging near Baker on the state line, located in the northeast corner of the unit.
