On The Ground

This area is located near Wendover and has the Goshute Mountains running north and south through the center of the unit. It holds herds of antelope, elk and a migratory herd of mule deer.

Hunters willing to learn the unit, and scout the area will see plently of mule deer bucks. Also a good unit for mature antelope bucks. Elk and deer permits are valid in some neighboring units

Terrain

Much of the unit is flat desert valleys leading up to foothills at the base of the Goshute Mountains, the only mountain range in the unit. The high point in the Goshute is 9,600 feet above sea level. Off of the high points, steep drainages and ridges cut down to the valley.

  • Roughly 1,444 square miles

  • 97.1% public land

  • Elevations from about 4,500-9,600 feet

Scattered throughout the unit are large open grass areas. In the valley bottoms are sagebrush, greasewood, fourwing saltbush, and other desert plants. Sagebrush continues up through middle and higher elevations. Pinyon pines and juniper trees cover a lot of the middle elevations. On the steep ridges there are some conifer forests mixed with mountain mahogany.

This unit offers great public access. There are maintained gravel roads leading to four-wheel-drive or ATV roads spread throughout the unit. Private property is limited, but there are some parcels of private property on the north end of the unit.

  • ATVs recommended

This unit is isolated and does not have a lot of towns that offer supplies anywhere near it. Most hunters will camp near the unit on public land, as there are a lot of different areas to camp. Hunters can also get motel rooms and general supplies in Wendover.
