Nebraska celebrates a significant conservation triumph with the successful reintroduction of Bighorn Sheep into the state in 1981. The inaugural group, comprising two rams and four ewes, was translocated from Custer State Park in South Dakota to a designated 500-acre captive enclosure within Fort Robinson State Park in northwestern Nebraska. Over the years, these pioneering individuals along with more recently introduced herds have flourished, leading to a steady expansion of herds across the state.

In the wake of this successful reintroduction effort, Nebraska now presents select hunting opportunities for Bighorn Sheep each year, marking a remarkable milestone in the species' conservation journey within the state.
