On The Ground

This unique hunt district is located in the west central part of the state. Know as the farmlands district.

This hunting district has really taken off with trophy sized mule deer the last couple of years. The district holds elk, mule deer and whitetails with quality animals found throughout the district. Usually the bigger bulls and bucks come off the private ranches located lower in the valley during the rut. Look for extra whitetail and mule deer doe tags to fill the freezer.

Terrain

The unit is made up of flat country, compiled of agricultural fields, winding creek and river bottoms, brush bottoms and rolling hills into big flats.

  • Roughly 102 square miles

  • 1.6% public land

  • Elevations from 3,000–3,600 feet

Covered in small cottonwood thickets and red under brush bottoms. The unit has some dairy farms, orchards, and agriculture fields planted with alfalfa, wheat, and corn. Some foothills within the unit are made up of big rolling sagebrush hills.

Private land completely limits your access and public land is extremely limited. There are plenty of highways, county and country roads for access throughout the entire unit. Gaining permission ahead of time will greatly increase your odds of success.

  • Making a few calls or knocking on a few doors can help greatly

  • Highway 93 and East Side Highway are your main roads

Hamilton has several great places for lodging, a sporting goods store, groceries, gas and other amenities. Camping is allowed on all national forest ground for up to 14 days in one location. There are also a few designated campgrounds located throughout the unit.

  • Blodgett Canyon and Angler’s Roost are public campgrounds
