On The Ground
This district is located in central Montana, southeast of Cascade. It is bordered on the north by the Missouri River and the Smith River on the east. This district is over 85% private ground.
Antelope populations are good and have not had some of the die offs that lots of other districts have experienced.
Terrain
Generally the topography varies from flat to gently rolling hills with some coulees, creeks and smaller hills in the northern portion. The further south you travel in the district you will start to get into more broken and rougher topography. Most of this district is great spot and stalk antelope hunting.
Roughly 693 square miles
12.8% public land
Elevations from 3,500-7,000 feet
Vegetation
The northern portion of this district is mostly farming and agriculture lands, with lots of wheat and barley crops. As you travel to the south you get into native rangelands of grass and forbs. These are large cattle ranches and some have alfalfa hay fields that always attract antelope.
Access
This northern portion is easily accessed by good gravel county roads. The southern portion only has 2 county roads accessing the district, Adel Road and Upper Millegan Road. There are large sections of land with no road access. Most of the antelope reside on private land and access to the private land is difficult to obtain. There are a few Block Management Areas in this district. There are also a few state sections.
Camping and Lodging
Great Falls is just to the north and has numerous motels, gas stations, food and sporting good stores. Cascade has motels, gas and food. Camping is allowed along the Missouri River. There are three campgrounds just to the south of Great Falls.
