Terrain

This district starts along the shores of Canyon Ferry Reservoir and extends several miles to the east and into the foothills of the Big Belt Mountains. This stretch is relatively flat and open with a slight uphill slope to the mountains. The majority of the area is easy terrain for stalking antelope, but very open country.

Much of the district that antelope reside in is open flat grass benches or extensive dry land agricultural fields. Closer to the mountains there are some junipers and cedars throughout the broken country. There are some irrigated agriculture crops closer to the lake. The center pivots fields with alfalfa attract a lot of antelope.

This district is accessed by Highway 287, 284 and 12. There are numerous county roads in the district. The majority of the antelope reside on private land and access to the private land is difficult. Permission should be obtained prior to applying for this district. There are a few state sections and some BLM land scattered throughout the district and two Block Management Areas.

Helena and Townsend have several motels, restaurants and gas stations. Camping is allowed on the National Forest lands in the district. Canyon Ferry Reservoir is nearby with campgrounds and fishing.
