Montana holds a lot of opportunity for black bear in both the spring and fall seasons. All black bear tags in Montana are available as over the counter hunts and feature generous hunt dates. Bears in Montana can grow to enormous sizes with most units having the ability to produce bears in the six-foot range and larger. Hunters will find a wide variety of terrain to pursue bears in along with millions of acres of public land and several wilderness areas. Montana does not allow baiting or hound hunting. Before purchasing a bear license all hunters must pass the bear identification test.
