The small unit is found along the Montana state line and Yellowstone National Park. A small but growing population of goats are found here. This unit is primarily backcountry and hunters will need to be physically prepared for the hunt.
A small but healthy population of mountain goats can be found in this unit. Reaching suitable mountain goat terrain can require some extreme physical effort and hunters will need to be prepared for this.
This area has high plateaus and rugged mountains bordering Yellowstone National Park. Sheer rock cliffs and timbered ridges on the Continental Divide, which also is the Montana line. Most slopes are very steep and climbing from creek bottom to mountain peaks will require several thousand feet of elevation gain.
Most of the northern slopes are heavily forested with spruces, firs and pines with some high country open with grassy meadows and gradual slopes. The rough and rocky land above the tree line is covered with grasses and low shrubs with some lichens and mosses growing on the rocks.
This unit has a lot of potental in terms of accessible hunting areas. Most of the unit is remote, though, and the physical effort to reach some of these locations will be extreme. The Targhee Creek and Dry Fork trails provide foot and stock access into the further extents of the unit.
