Moose hunters have good success here. This area is south of Georgetown Canyon and Crow Creek Road with mountains in the northeast, east and southeast of Montpelier.

Hunters have taken a lot of bulls here in the past. Bulls with antler spreads of 28-38” are common. Fires and logging have improved habitat, creating edges, saplings and brush

This unit has a lot of mountain ranges and valleys with good habitat. Moose are usually seen in the Sheep Creek Hills and on the Bear Lake Plateau in the south, but the northern and eastern parts of the unit are better. Most mountainous land is in the Caribou National Forest and is part of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. Valleys are mostly private, but there is a lot of public access to forest land.

Spruces, firs and pines cover a lot of the mountains along with big aspen groves. Lower elevations have a lot of bigtooth maple brush, chokecherries and serviceberries. A lot of fields that are mainly planted in alfalfa or grass hay, can be found near Dingle, south of Geneva and near Montpelier.

Road access to the Caribou National Forest is good in most places. In some areas, private ranches or farms block access to public land. These places are usually hunted more lightly. A lot of public roads cross private land. The main access points can be found along the Wayan Loop Road in the north. U.S. 30 is between Soda Springs and then south and east along the Bear River floodplain to Wyoming and U.S. 89 east of Montpelier.

Most hunters camp near dirt or gravel roads. Backcountry hunters can camp almost anywhere on BLM or national forest land. Most maintained Forest Service campgrounds are closed before archery season is halfway through. Lodging can be found in Thayne, Montpelier and Soda Springs.
