Between the crest of the Beaverhead Mountains and Medicine Lodge Creek, this area holds high numbers of elk, mule deer, some pronghorn antelope and a small number of whitetails.

Rifle elk tags are limited, which can lead to good hunting. Hunters can also apply for mule deer tags for an extended season that allows hunting during the rut.

This area has terrain that varies from desert flats in the south to rough, rugged mountains well above timberline in the north. Some mountain slopes are steep and rugged with deep canyons while others are gradual. Several peaks and ridges are higher than timberline at about 9,000 feet in elevation. High points include Copper Mountain, Heart Mountain and Scott Peak.

The main roads are Highway 22 in the south and Medicine Lodge Creek Road on the eastern edge. Some county and forest roads leave the main routes and follow creek bottoms and ridges to interior terrain.

Sagebrush, forbs and wild bunchgrass cover the low hills, flatlands, higher ridges and slopes that face south, southwest and southeast. Some junipers and aspens grow in places. A lot of the terrain above 7,500 feet is heavily forested with spruces, firs and pines. Some high country is open with grassy meadows, brushy and grassy parks and gradual slopes. Land above the tree line is mostly covered with grasses and low shrubs. Some rough and rocky terrain above the treeline has lichens and mosses growing on and among the rocks.

Some hunters camp along dirt roads. Webber Creek Campground is a primitive, no-fee site at the base of Fritz Peak along Webber Creek. Lodging is available in Dubois near the southeastern corner of the unit. Options include Hernandez Motel and Cross Roads Motel.
