On The Ground
North of Campo to Kansas line and just north of Baca and Prowers County line is an area of extensive private ranches and farms with limited public lands that support mule deer, whitetails and antelope. Elk are rarely seen.
Mule deer and whitetails are known to frequent irrigated crops, Conservation Reserve Program lands and creek bottoms. Hire an outfitter to gain access to trophy class whitetail or mule deer.
Terrain
Flat prairie, Two Buttes Reservoir, seasonal creeks, rolling hills, draws, prominent Two Buttes, arroyos and sections of tilled farm land.

Vegetation
Extensive shortgrass prairie, limited areas of sand sage, yucca, prickly cactus, cottonwoods along creek beds, dryland and irrigated agricultural crops.
Access
Comanche National Grasslands, Carrizo Unit over 22,000 acres are spread across the southwest portion. Two Buttes Reservoir 8,000 acres 30 miles south of Lamar on US Highway 287, then east on County Road B5. Burchfield, 178 acres, is 11 miles east of Walsh on County Road DD. US Highway 287, Colorado Route 89 and 116, US Highway 160 and County Road F and G lead to a good county and secondary road system.

Camping and Lodging
Two Buttes Reservoir and Burchfield have camping areas. Springfield and Lamar provide a variety of motels, restaurants, gas stations and medical facilities.
