On The Ground

100 percent private land with good numbers of pronghorn antelope and mule deer scattered throughout the unit.

Some ranchers commonly give permission to hunt pronghorns, but seldom grant access for deer hunting.

Terrain

  • Roughly 660 square miles

  • 5.9% public land

  • Elevations from 4,381-5,381 feet

Shortgrass prairie with limited farmland in the southeast corner. Cottonwoods grow in and along stream beds of seasonal creeks.

Good dirt county road system. Expect to pay to hunt on private land.

  • 6.3 square miles of BLM land

  • Gaining access is more difficult than getting a license.

Pueblo is the closest town with all services, while Rocky Ford is the nearest town with supplies but no hospital.
