Colorado Springs is about 40 miles to the west of this open prairie area that supports mule deer, antelope and whitetail.
Get access permission well before the hunt. Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) lands provide cover and food.
Open prairie that has many rolling hills and several creeks and sand/sage flats.
Approximately 540 acres are under BLM control but it is landlocked by private ownership. Main east and west highway from Colorado Springs is Colorado Route 94. Colorado Route 71 heads north and south connecting with Colorado 94 at Pumpkin Center. Both these highways intersect with county and secondary roads leading to many ranches.
Prickly cactus, yucca, open shortgrass prairie, cottonwoods, Russian olive, Russian thistle and long native grasses on Conservation Reserve Program lands.
Colorado Springs and Pueblo are metropolitan centers providing hotels and motels, restaurants, gas stations, airports, and medical facilities. Rocky Ford, a smaller community has motels, gas stations and food.
