On The Ground
96% private land close to Burlington is plentiful with mule deer, whitetails, antelope and some elk. Ranchers frequently allow antelope hunters on their ranches. It is difficult to get access to hunt deer.
Eastern plains are noted for trophy mule deer and whitetails. Whitetail bucks frequent the creek bottoms and irrigated crops.

Flat agricultural land and prairie rises to rolling hills with many creek bottoms carving through the land.

Vegetation
Short-grass, like blue grama grass and buffalo grass mixed with native tall grass along with dry-land and center pivot irrigated crops; wheat, corn, millet and sunflower create a quilt like pattern landscape. Sagebrush, soapweed yucca, prickly pear cactus are in areas with little moisture and some cottonwoods line creek bottoms.
Access
Interstate 70, U.S 40 and 385 and Colorado Route 59 connect with many county and secondary roads. Secondary roads get rutted and muddy during thunderstorms. Later in the season any snow storm accompanying by high winds can create a ground blizzard.

Burlington along Interstate 70 offers a variety of choices in motels, RV Park, restaurants, medical facilities and gas/diesel stations. Cheyenne Wells and Kit Carson on U.S. 40 have motels, gas and food.Motels:
