On The Ground
Mule deer, whitetail and antelope bucks can be found on private ranches and farms. A small number of elk are along the eastern boundary. There is no public land available for hunters.
Contact ranchers and farmers to secure private land access before applying for licenses because it can be difficult.
Terrain
Miles of flat prairie are broken up by rolling hills and by the South Fork Republican River, Sand Creek, Coon Creek and Seven Mile Creeks. Gulches and arroyos make up the landscape.

Vegetation
Large sections of dryland crops combined with a vast short grass prairie make up the majority of ground cover. Cottonwoods, Russian olive, sagebrush, Russian thistle, yucca and prickly cactus are found throughout the unit. Some gulches and drainages are lined with shrubs and weeds.
Access
No state lands are available for hunting. Interstate 70 to the north, US Highway 40 along the western edge and County Road 5 and 9 form the eastern boundary. These roads connect to a good county road and secondary road system.

Camping and Lodging
Limon, in the northeast corner offers motels, cafés, limited medical care, gas and diesel fuel. Hugo, on US Highway 40 has a regional hospital, cafés and fuel. Hugo has a hospital, fuel and limited restaurants. Arriba provides some lodging, gas and cafés.
