On The Ground
North of Burlington is a large farming area and the South Fork of the Republican River where herds of mule deer, whitetails and antelope are present. South Republican State Wildlife Area provides public access.
A few trophy class mule deer and whitetails are taken each fall.
Terrain
Flat rangelands and sections of Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) lands on gently rolling hills is the primary landscape. The South Fork of the Republican River creates an extensive drainage system.

Vegetation
Mostly short grass prairie, a limited amount of sagebrush, areas of sandsage and sand hills, yucca, Russian thistle, Cottonwoods along creek bottoms and Russian olives near ranch homes.
Access
State land: South Republican about acres 6,000 along the South Fork of the Republican River. Area is located south of U.S. Highway 36 east of County Road V.

Camping and Lodging
Burlington is the closest town offering a variety of motels and restaurants, gas, diesel and medical facilities. Seibert, Vona, Stratton and Bethune along Interstate 70 have limited a number of motels, gas stations and cafes.
