Colorado is considered by some as the land of opportunity for mule deer hunting. Huntable numbers of mule deer live in every unit within the state and many units have mature bucks that frequently reach over 180” B&C. Colorado has the genetics to produce the largest mule deer bucks of anywhere. The western side of Colorado is called the western slopes, mule deer there are migratory, and typically live in challenging terrain for much of the year. The eastern half of the state, referred to as the eastern plains, is flat ground that can hold mule deer in unlikely terrain. When severe winters hit with heavy snowfall and cold temperatures, mule deer numbers across Colorado can be impacted.
