Hunters discussing Unit 45C in Arizona emphasize its challenging but rewarding terrain, requiring preparation and familiarity for successful hunts. They note that draw odds can be competitive, suggesting that planning and early application are essential. Experienced hunters recommend prioritizing scouting to understand game patterns and seasonal movements, which can significantly impact hunting success. The unit's distinct features, including diverse vegetation and elevation changes, necessitate strategic approaches to approach and glass for game effectively.
This unit is south of units 45A and 45B. All three comprise Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, which is open to hunting but subject to regulations about firearms in vehicles. Mature sheep and deer are sparse in this unit.
Once a high number of desert sheep and a healthy mule deer herd lived in Unit 45A, but numbers have dropped significantly, most likely due to drought and predation. Trophy quality also has declined. Sheep hunting is restricted to residents at this time as only one tag is offered due to low numbers of mature rams.
