This unit is found in northeastern Alaska and along the Candian border. The region sees an incredible array of terrain types from open and sprawling tundra to daunting granite peaks. This unit is almost entirely remote and hunters will need to be flown into the unit to hunt. Drop camp options are very popular here but some great float hunt opportunities also exist. Once past the logistical hump of simply reaching the unit hunters can find some incredible hunting opportunities here.

Logistically speaking, this unit is a tough one to reach for the most part but the effort can be greatly rewarded.

This entire area is primarily comprised of large rolling hills with timber stands and tundra in the lower elevations and large expansive tundra on the tops of ridgelines. Many creeks and rivers cover this area and make for a diverse area with plenty of room for game to hide. By utilizing the many small ridges and rolling hills hunters can find excellent vantage points and great options for movement throughout the unit. A small range of granite and limestone peaks can be found along the Alaskan-Candian border and will comprise the only real sheep habitat within the unit.

This area is primarily boreal forest and will see the typical makeup of birch, black spruce, willow, bramble, and tundra. Glassing conditions are great for the most part and small bumps in elevation can reveal miles and miles of terrain. Traversing the tundra can be tough walking at times. Some of the higher elevations in the region will see a good distribution of willow, alder, and black spruce. In these areas, glassing and walking conditions will be excellent. A small section along the east edge of the unit is comprised of granite and limestone peaks and deep-cut river valleys. Lower elevations in these areas will see a large makeup of willow, alder, berry bushes, and tundra with most of the higher elevation areas being void of vegetation.

With this unit being primarily remote most hunters will need to be flown into the unit and dropped in basecamp locations or along rivers where a float hunt can be started. Most hunters will generally be flown in from air taxi services located outside of the unit. The Sheenjek and Black river have several options for float hunts. The Yukon River makes up the majority of the southern border and also provides some river access options although hunting pressure can be higher around here.

For the most part, hunters will be forced to camp in the bush when hunting this area due to the remoteness. Many gravel bars can be found scattered along rivers and streams and higher ridgelines can make great base camp locations for fly in hunts.
