On The Ground
Located in the northwest corner of the state this area is made up of scenic mountains in the Shoshone National Forest. Bordered by the South Fork of the Shoshone River on the north, this unit contains a lot of public land and includes some designated wilderness.
This is a rugged and remote area with most sheep hunting done on horseback. This area is one of the best units in the state and has the potential for a great ram. Rams here are known for having large horn bases. Sheep are scattered throughout the unit. Large population of black bear.
Terrain
This hunt area is horseback friendly and has a lot of trails running through it. The terrain varies from river bottoms to peaks of over 13,000 feet. There are some areas of gently contoured ridges and extreme volcanic rocky outcroppings. Timberline can be found at 10,000 feet.

Wilderness
Under Wyoming law nonresidents are not permitted to hunt big game or trophy game in any federally designated wilderness areas without the presence of a licensed guide or resident companion. The resident companion must first get a free non-commercial guide license from a Game and Fish office. The law does not prohibit nonresidents from hiking, fishing or hunting game birds, small game, or coyotes in wilderness areas.

Vegetation
The country between valley floors and timberline consists of thick conifer forest with intermittent grassy meadows and sagebrush. Large rocky scree fields and rugged volcanic outcroppings are commonly found here. Sheep can be found foraging on a variety of bunch grasses in the alpine basins. Middle elevations have Douglas fir and aspens.
Access
Public access to sheep country in this unit is good, with some maintained gravel roads leading to multiple trail heads that access the back country. This area is bordered by Wyoming Highway 120 and the Big Horn River on the east, the Wind River Reservation boundary and Shoshone National Forest boundary on the south and Wiggins Fork Creek and Needle Creek on the west.
ATVs or tire chains are recommended if there is heavy snowfall
Pitchfork Road, Wood River Road and Wiggins Fork are main access roads for trail heads
Camping and Lodging
Cody offers many options for lodging including motels like Best Western, Super 8, The Cody and Holiday Inn. Cody also has groceries, gas and other amenities. Camping is allowed on all public ground for up to 16 days in one location. There are lots of designated campgrounds located throughout the unit, but hunters can also camp in remote locations.
Wood River, Brown Mountain and Deer Creek are public campgrounds
