Unit 51 is located north-east of Greybull. This unit consists of lower crop lands transitioning into steep canyons and cedars in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains.For nonresidents, this area is part of Region R and tags drawn for this area are also valid in: 41, 46, 47, 50, 52, 53.

Mule deer can be found throughout the whole unit, and whitetail are mostly found in lower elevations. The hunt can be challenging, but the trophy potential is there in the unit.

The lower elevations are made up of sagebrush flats and deep cuts with agriculture land mixed in. Higher elevations have rocky, steep canyons, long drainages and rocky bluffs all with extremely rugged terrain.

This area has decent public access. Public access is good in this unit. Public main roads and two tracks let you get into remote country by use of a four wheel drive vehicle. An ATV is extremely helpful in this unit for getting around. A GPS with private/public information is very helpful for deciphering public from private land. Getting permission to hunt private land in this unit can be difficult.

The lower elevations are sagebrush flats, prairie grasses and agriculture fields. Higher elevations will have ponderosa pines and juniper pockets. Hardwoods and willows can be found along the creek bottoms.

Greybull is the closest town, with a number of lodging options, grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants. Camping is allowed on BLM land and there are a few campgrounds in the area. Hunters can also camp in remote locations.
