Area 156 is located mostly in the Bridger Teton National Forest, with small tracts of private land throughout the area.For nonresidents, this area is part of Region H and tags drawn for this area are also valid in: 130, 138, 139, 140, 142, 146, 149, 150, 151, 152, 153, 154, 155.

Large bucks and consistent numbers of deer can be found throughout this area. With high altitude meadows and many two-track roads that run through the unit, hunters can have high success with many opportunities at deer.

Thick conifer forests cover most ridgelines in the unit. Large rock outcrops and mountain peaks rise high out of forests in the area. Many small basins have lakes that have good fishing in the summers, but also provide steady water sources for deer herds.

With the high elevation and great environment, area 156 also has great public access. Many dirt two-track roads allow hunters to travel by vehicle through this area. Areas that are not accessible by vehicle have many hiking trails that allow hunters to get high on ridges and mountain tops to find the largest deer.

The western portion of the unit has small tracts of private land and irrigated ranches along the edge of the Teton Park. These lower elevations have thick willow pockets and large cottonwood trees. A majority of the unit has thick conifer forests with meadows of sagebrush and waist-high grasses. Large patches of aspen trees are found all over the area.

Hunters can camp on the National Forest with no permits required. Lodging can also be found just west of the unit in Moran.
