Rugged National Forest and Wilderness areas take up a large portion of the unit. This terrain is pretty diverse and can provide good opportunity for a trophy buck. Private land will be found near agriculture fields along sections of the northern boundary, and extends east towards Cody. BLM also makes up a good portion of lower elevations in this unit. The area is known for a high grizzly bear population so be aware.For nonresidents, this area is part of Region F and tags drawn for this area are also valid in: 105, 106, 110, 111, 112, 114, 115

Hunters in this unit have opportunities for a trophy buck when hunting the travel corridors in late October and early November. Whitetail are typically only found on the private land agriculture bottoms. Being able to endure the cold and stay behind your optics will greatly increase your odds at finding a trophy mule deer.

This area has a lot of steep terrain with rocky ledges in the western and south western portions of the unit. Some of the lower elevations have more rolling hills with fairly easy access. Little hidden pockets provide great hideaways for big bucks. Gaining elevation and picking apart the large open country with optics will be the best way to find big bucks.

Wilderness

Under Wyoming law nonresidents are not permitted to hunt big game or trophy game in any federally designated wilderness areas without the presence of a licensed guide or resident companion. The resident companion must first get a free non-commercial guide license from a Game and Fish office. The law does not prohibit nonresidents from hiking, fishing or hunting game birds, small game, or coyotes in wilderness areas.

There are a few trailhead locations to access from the main road, and a few rocky four wheel drive trails located in the mid to lower elevations of the unit. All nonresidents are required to have a guide when hunting in wilderness areas. Most trailheads are located close to the main road but four wheel drive is still recommended.

Lower elevations have a lot of sagebrush with thick juniper draws. In higher elevations, lodgepole pine, juniper and quaking aspen can be seen. The unit is above timberline and opens up to rocky crags and grassy ridges.

Cody is the closest town with several options for lodging, restaurants and gas stations. Camping on state land here is not allowed, but hunters can camp on BLM land in a specific location for up to 14 days within any 28-day period.
