On The Ground

This area is in the Southeast portion of Wyoming and is a good unit to hunt for great representative bucks. Public access in this unit good but some of the lands found on the northern end of the unit will not hold suitbale habitat for antelope.

Good numbers of antelope and found here and public access is decent but some of the public lands in the north will not hold any notable populations.

Terrain

Land here has a lot of hills and rock outcroppings that are mainly found on the eastern side of the unit. In some parts of the area, there are higher elevations with steeper slopes where hunters can find larger canyons and draws. Throughout the west side of the unit, hunters can find a lot of flat terrain with rolling prairies where antelope typically live.

  • Roughly 1116 square miles

  • 33% public land

  • Elevations from 6,300-8,880 feet

Vegetation in lower-elevation areas is mainly prairie filled with grass and sage. As hunters climb in elevation, there will be mixed conifer with lodgepole and ponderosa pine mixed with sage flats.

Access in some areas is limited because of private property here. There are a few Private Lands Public Wildlife Hunter Management Areas that can be found here. An ATV or side-by-side vehicle can be good for traveling. There are a lot of well-maintained gravel roads, as well as a few two track roads that can get hunters access into the unit. Roads can get hard to access with bad weather.

The closest lodging options can be found in Douglas or Casper, but these places are roughly 40 miles away from the north end of the unit. Groceries and fuel can be found in all of these towns. Camping is allowed on public land in the unit.
