On The Ground

Drivers traveling between Price and Green River often see large pronghorn bucks to the west. This triangular area north of Interstate 70, south of Price, west of US 6 and east of State Route 10 has long been considered one of the state’s best units for hunting.

This unit has a lot of public land with the antelope spread throughout it. Hunters can find antelope in groups of 10-20. This is a physically easy hunt with good access to fair antelope numbers but it is hard to draw due to the popularity among antelope hunters.

Terrain

The majority of the antelope terrain will be low elevations flats with sagebrush-covered rolling hills. This part of Utah has mesas and plateaus with some rolling hills. Antelope can be glassed from State Route 6 on the north end of the unit. There are some isolated drinkers and stock ponds on the unit that the antelope will use for a water source. Hunters will be able to glass and cover large tracts of country. There is good road access to this area that hunters can travel by either ATV or truck.

  • Roughly 1,683 square miles

  • 86% public land

  • Elevations from about 4,100-7,600 feet

The high elevations contain ponderosa pines and fir trees. The middle elevations contain pinyon/juniper, manzanita, grass meadows, and sagebrush. The lower elevations have pinyon/juniper, sagebrush, oak brush, grasses, and other browse.

There is great access to the lower elevation parts of this unit where the antelope can be found. Dirt roads and a high number of two-track ATV trails can be used to navigate the unit. There are good antelope numbers throughout this unit and hunters will want to use the roads to cover the unit. Ther is good access off State Route 6 with many hunters using the Green River Cut Off road and the East Mounds road. Some hunters will use the Miller Creek road that is accessed from Wellington, UT. Weather conditions should not impede hunters ability to access the unit.

  • Great vehicle and ATV access

  • Lots of country to hunt

Price and Emery have lodging, gas, groceries and other supplies. Camping is permitted on most public land.
