On The Ground

New Mexico Unit 1 represents the eastern portion of the Navajo Indian Reservation. Hunting opportunities include mule deer, elk, antelope, and desert bighorn sheep. Contact the New Mexico Department of Indian Affairs for contact support for all tribal reservations. The number for tribal game and fish is (505) 476-16000 and the navajo nation game and fish website is www.nndfw.org

Known for producing trophy sized mule deer and elk. The Navajo Nation is a very large Indian reservation.

Terrain

The terrain is very diverse across the entire reservation. Rocky sandstone canyons, gentle rolling hills, and steep mountains make up the terrain.

Varying from sage flats in lower elevations, pinyon juiper and oak brush in middle elevations, and pine and apsen forests in the higher elevations.

Access is restricted to tribal members and permitted non-tribal members. Some units only offer hunt choices that require the use of a tribal guide for access.

Camping and lodging is available throughout the entire reservation in various towns and forests.
