On The Ground
Mule deer, whitetail deer, elk and moose can be found here, this area also includes part of the Teton River Basin around Driggs. Some deer and elk tags are sold over the counter.
Elk and deer trophy quality can be low. Muzzleloader elk season takes place as the rut is winding down in early October.
Terrain
Rolling hills of grass and agricultural crops are in the north and along the Teton River Basin. Steep and rugged mountains to the east and west of the Teton River have heavily wooded canyons. Some high peaks are open and easy to glass.

28.5% public land
Elevations from 6,000-9,016 feet
Vegetation
Teton River Basin is mainly covered with grain, potato and alfalfa fields with many wetlands, dense willows and cottonwood trees along the river. Caribou-Targhee National Forest is covered in lodgepole pines. A variety of heavy underbrush and an occasional huckleberry patch can be found under the forest canopy.
Access
Good access by foot and horseback in the national forest on trails that start along the forest boundary. Trailheads into the Big Hole Mountains can be reached from Cedron-Bates, Horseshoe Canyon and Milk Creek roads. Access to the forest east of Highway 33 and below the Wyoming line is limited.

Camping and Lodging
A few hunters tent camp or stay in RVs near trailheads, but RV campsites and access are limited. Many hunters stay in Victor, Driggs or Tetonia, while others backpack or hunt by horseback from spike camps.
