On The Ground
Located north of Burlington, this is one of the smallest units in the state. Mule deer and whitetails spend much of their time near the South Fork of the Republican River. State lands make up 35% of the unit so access is good.
Terrain
Flat open prairie with a number of creeks, the South Fork of the Republican River and large sections of tilled farm land.

Vegetation
Shortgrass prairie, sagebrush, yucca, cactus, crops of corn, sunflower, alfalfa and wheat. Cottonwoods and willows along the creek bottoms and near Bonny Reservoir.
Access
State Lands: Landsman Creek 332 acres located 18 miles north of Burlington off U.S. Highway 38 on County Road O. Foot access only from designated parking areas. Species available: deer and upland game. South Republican 18,365 acres go north of Burlington on U.S. highway 385 to County Road 1 then head east. Game available: deer, waterfowl, pheasants, quail and turkey.

Camping and Lodging
South Republican State Wildlife Area provides campsites and RV sites at Bonny Reservoir. Burlington, along Interstate 70 and St. Francis, Kansas on U.S. Highway 36, has medical facilities, motels, gas, diesel and restaurants.
