On The Ground
In eastern Colorado near the agricultural communities of Wray and Yuma whitetails, mule deer and antelope are found near irrigated and dry land crops. The majority of land is under private ownership or leased from the state.
According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Hunters are encouraged to visit the area and to contact landowners well in advance of the hunt to be successful. Do not wait until the day of the hunt to make first contact with a landowner. Expect low numbers of antelope bucks.
Terrain
Dry canyons, open prairie, numerous sand hills, large areas of tilled dry land and center pivot irrigated farms, North Fork of the Republican River and Jack Creek are prominent drainages.

Vegetation
Short-grass prairie, sandsage prairie, cottonwoods, yucca, Russian thistle and Conservation Reserve Program lands. Dry land corn and domestic sunflowers, along with corn, wheat, and alfalfa under pivot irrigation.
Access
State land: Sandsage 307 acres located west of Wray on U.S. Highway 34 to County Road 35 connecting to County Road CC. Hunting allowed only with shotguns or bows. Camping prohibited. Species available are pheasant, quail, waterfowl and deer. Major highways are U.S. Highways 385, 34 and 36, Colorado Route 59 and County Road 23. There is a good county and secondary road system.
Wet conditions create slick and rutted secondary roads
Camping and Lodging
The farming and ranching communities of Wray and Yuma offer motels, cafes, gas and diesel and medical facilities. Limited gas and food available in Otis and Cope.Motels:
Wray – Butte motel, Sandhiller and Cobblestone
Yuma – Nelson Inn, Harvest motel and Sunset motel
