Utah is on the top of the list when it comes to trophy elk hunting states. Like many western states, the best units typically take years to draw. Most of the limited entry units in Utah provide an opportunity for a mature, branch antlered bull elk. The limited entry elk units have four different seasons. An early archery, early rifle, muzzleloader and late rifle. The archery seasons are typically scheduled in late August and early September and offer very little rut action, but the early rifle and muzzleloader seasons typically happen around peak rut dates and offer great action. Utah also offers a premium elk tag that allows the hunter to hunt all seasons until they harvest their bull.
