Utah has recently taken steps to increase Black bear opportunities throughout the state and hunters will now have several options. Seasons are broken into separate classes depending on the time of year they occur in. Generally, these will be spring, summer, and fall. Bears can be hunted with the aid of bait and hounds, but there are certain limits for every unit dictating when certain methods can be used or not. Hunters are encouraged to pay close attention to individual unit regulations when planning their hunt.
* Units listed below may not have a current hunt for this species. Units in this table are included if a significant part of the unit is found within the county.
Baiting and the use of hounds is legal on specific hunts
Baiting laws can change depending on land ownership; hunters need to pay close attention to the hunting regulations for their specific unit
Bear harvests must be reported to the Utah DNR within 48 hours of the time of kill
All bear hunting is controlled through a limited entry tag drawing
Bears cannot be transported out of the state until properly inspected by a DNR employee
