Bighorn Sheep Tag | $120 | $1,200 |
Nonresident hunters in Nevada may apply for two sheep tags a year — one each for California bighorn sheep and desert bighorn sheep. Unsuccessful applicants receive a bonus point for each species each time they apply for, but do not receive a tag. Hunter success rates are high, and several tags are issued yearly. The Boone and Crockett Club does not recognize California bighorn sheep as a separate category, so trophy-class heads are entered in the club’s record books as Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep.
** Boone and Crockett classifies Rocky Mountain Bighorns and California Bighorns under the same classification. Units below may include Rocky Mountain Bighorns. Units listed below may not have a current hunt for this species. Units in this table are considered if any part of the unit is found within any part of the county.
Big rams compared to other states
Hunters may use any legal weapon in all seasons
Tag holders no longer must take an indoctrination course before hunting
Herds slightly down but still healthy
Good genetics with rams in the 160" class taken every year in most units
High hunter success in most units
Low drawing odds due to high demand
15 or more bonus points dramatically improve drawing odds
