Tule elk are considered one of the most specialized elk in North America. They are unique to the state of California and are found in the central part of the state. Thanks to great management and recovery plans from the CDF&W, there has been a going population of Tule elk over the last few decades. Tule elk don’t get as big as the other species of elk, but they do carry some neat antler characteristics in mature bulls. Similar the Roosevelt bulls they can grow crown points resulting in 10 or 12 points per antler. There isn’t much opportunity to hunt Tule elk with the extremely limited permits, but this is the only state that you can draw a Tule elk permit. There are guided landowner tags available to purchase, but they can be very expensive.
