Arizona produces more Coues deer that qualify for listing in the Boone and Crockett Club's all time record book than New Mexico or Sonora, the only other places where hunters pursue these little desert whitetails. Sonora rivals Arizona for trophy quality. Coues deer are hunted in several units in Arizona with all weapon types. Rifle season in several units takes place in December and provides rut action. Most terrain is steep and rugged, so being in shape is beneficial. Quality optics, dedication and glassing are key to success.
