Arizona offers hunters the rare opportunity of hunting free-ranging American bison, also called buffalo, in the Kaibab and Paria River areas, where the House Rock herd has roamed since the 1920s. Several Arizona bulls have qualified for inclusion in the Boone and Crockett Club's record book of North American big game. The House Rock herd is widely scattered and can present a challenge because finding a buffalo can be difficult. Part of the herd lives at times in Grand Canyon National Park, where no hunting is allowed. Hunters who draw tags to hunt the Raymond herd are accompanied by a representative of the Arizona Game and Fish and are told which animal to shoot.
