One of the more unique opportunities in Alaska, Bison provide a challenging experience for any hunter lucky enough to draw a draw. In 1928, 23 Bison from Montana were introduced into the Delta River region of Alaska. The herd quickly grew to 400 animals and hunting formally began in the 1950s. Today, nearly 1,000 bison roam Alaska in four separate herds. The largest herd is found in the Delta Junction area but smaller herds have been established by translocation in the Farewell, Chitina River, and Copper River areas.

Alaska Bison are among the most popular draw hunts in the state with some hunts seeing as many as 15,000 applications or more. The odds can be steep but applying is still cheap and lucky hunters will find themselves with an adventure of a lifetime.
