Before I started using my Mystery Ranch Women's Metcalf, I just used an old hunting backpack my dad had lying around. I found myself constantly pulling the backpack straps back onto my shoulders, and by the end of the day, my shoulders and back were killing me.
A few years ago I picked up the women's version of the Mystery Ranch Metcalf and have never looked back. The padded straps and waist belt provide that extra little bit of comfort you need when carrying a heavy load, and the harnessing on the shoulder straps and waist belt ensures a snug fit to your body to avoid your pack sloshing around and your straps always falling off your shoulders. Another huge perk of purchasing a pack made specifically for women, like the Mystery Ranch Metcalf, is the narrow shoulder pads and curved harnessing designed specifically for a woman's frame and figure - nothing is more annoying than harnessing and straps cutting into your chest! Another thing that I love about the Women's Metcalf is the buckles at the top and bottom of the pack, which I use to carry my bow, sheds, and even tripods for those long hikes when I want my hands more free.
Ladies, if you have been on the fence about investing in a high quality pack or are tempted to settle for a men's pack, I would strongly suggest that you take a look at the Mystery Ranch Women's Metcalf. I truly believe that a bad pack can make or break a hunting trip, so investing in a solid pack built specifically for a woman's figure is worth it for me. Running a pack that fits me has saved my back, shoulders, and hips time and time again and made for more enjoyable trips in the backcountry. I have had my Women's Metcalf for over three years and have had zero issues with durability.
